PEDRO Y MARIO BRESCIA CAFFERATA

The Brescia, with almost 40 companies in the following sectors: financial, mining, fishing, industrial, real estate and services, today it is the most  important (local) economic group in Peru.

CHANGING TIMES
The decade of the 90 meant for the group the consolidation of its businesses in mining, especially in Minsur. In 1995 the group returned to the financial sector to be the protagonist with the purchase of the Continental Bank, today its financial arm, showing that the Brescia were not reluctant to  establish alliances with foreign groups, in this case, the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya (soon the BBVA). The friendship that Pedro Brescia Caffetara  joined in Europe (usually spends at least three months of the year in the Old Continent) with Emilio Ybarra, at that moment, president of the Spanish group, help a lot. Moreover; the executives of the BBVA that visits Peru with certain assiduity stayed at the Brescia’s house.

Today, in the 2006, the group prepares itself for not few challenges. Perhaps the most well-known are two. First, the purchase of Sipesa Group, the first fishery of Peru, to Isaac Galsky, in a transaction that would surpass the USS100 million (without considering liabilities) and after the fusion with Tecnológica de Alimentos would give rise to the  larger  company  of flour and fish oil.

The second project is the construction of the Hotel Libertador Lima, five stars (designed by the architect Bernardo Fort Brescia) of 40 floors, 300 rooms and a convention center for 2,500 people, it will demands an investment of USS30 million,  it will build  in the heart of the financial center of Lima.

The group is developing a second commercial project in the Molina, in the crossing of the avenues the Molina and Javier Prado, after its successful incursion in the sector of Shopping centers (constructions) with the Molina Plaza. The group also wants to establish a network of massive distribution to assure the growth of its pisco, Viñas de Oro. The group also has a project of  USS300 millions for the construction of a chemical plant (ammonium nitrate), a petrochemical project today more feasible with the gas of Camisea.

THE ANGULAR STONE
But, what has made possible this wide development? The generational change and a greater structure to the interior of the group, and the consolidation of an organizational culture with deeply rooted values. AESA handles portafolio of investments of the group and it is in charge to solve the legal and financial subjects. For example, she is the one that is making ' due diligencé (audit) of the Sipesa Group, with a view to his purchase; and she was the one that developed to the commercial project Molina Seat. Also, she is the one in charge to determine the destiny of the cash flow that generates the companies of the group.

Who is outlined like its possible successor? Apparently, Alex Fort, its nephew and one of the executives of the exposed family more to mass media, would be one of the candidates. Nevertheless, sources of the group assure that it "is plus a journalistic hypothesis". It because this roll also could fall to Fortunato Brescia Moreyra, today seeing close by the businesses of the group in mining and agroindustria.
